Group Meeting

We have recently had a group meeting where we discussed in detail what themes and aspects we wanted to include in the style guide, which i was going to create. This Document will ensure that although each member of the group will be contributing to the ancillary task in different ways all of our work will have a common theme and house style.
Jenny also purchased a notebook so that we can record everything said at meetings, when filming and creating ancillary tasks as well as keeping a log book of our project so the project moves along swiftly and quickly.

As a group we have started to write down each shot that we wish to take in a detailed chronological order to create our music video using the lyrics.

Our Pitch

This is tge presentation we created to pitch our idea to Mr white and Mr Palmer...

For our Advanced Media Production we have chosen to create a music video. We have decided to portray Vanessa Carlton’s, ‘A Thousand Miles’. We chose this song as it is open to interpretation so we were able to choose a storyline that is easy to depict but also fits in with the conventions of the genre and a music video. We will research Vanessa Carlton’s style and other music videos to gain an idea of the style of costumes to use.As part of our ancillary tasks we plan to create t-shirts, calendars, concert tickets, a website and album covers. We will design these around the house style of the artist- for example, using dark colours and Gothic patterns.
We have researched other artists of the same genre to establish a common house style and theme. We also looked at our artist’s current albums, website and other merchandise in order to help with the draft ideas for our ancillary tasks.

We believe our target audience will be mainly teenage girls but also young women, who can relate to the storyline, specific characters or the emotions that are shown, falling in and out of love, or the loss of a life. The costumes make up and locations may also generate an interest within the target audience.

Vanessa was born in Milford, Pennsylvania to Ed Carlton, a pilot, and Heidi, a pianist and school music teacher. Her interest in music began at an early age; after returning from Disneyland at the age of two, she played "It's a Small World" on the piano. Her mother then began to tutor her on the piano.
At age eighteen, she decided to devote her time to piano-playing and songwriting she attended Columbia University and performed in bars and clubs in Manhattan until her early success in 2002.
A Thousand Miles was originally titled Interlude, and is a pop song written by American singer Vanessa Carlton and recorded for her 2002 album Be Not Nobody. It was co-produced and co-arranged by Carlton and Ron Fair, and was released as the album's first single in 2002.The single soon became Vanessa’s signature song and became known as Carlton's breakthrough hit.

After listening and analysing our song choice we began by making a mood board of our initial ideas, we decided to use a variety of images, to show location, costume, Movement and themes. Our themes included a Gothic style, using contrasting colours, such as red and black to create different moods of love and sorrow. From this idea we looked at flowers and the moods they can portray, specifically roses and poppies. The poppies gave us the idea of the military, the loss of life and the motion of time.
From our initial ideas we created a storyboard which showed all our shot ideas, looking at camera angles, speed and length.

To create the motion of time we want to use a variety of symbolic locations, which could link back to past memories. The locations include the beach, Woodland areas, busy roads, busy parks, London landmarks, busy shopping centres. We decided to use these as they were suitable and will appeal to the target audience.

Our main characters will a teenage girl and a teenage boy, the girl will be a ‘girl next door type’ with a Gothic twist, and the boy will be a solider dressed in a typical army uniform.

Using different media platforms we will create a variety of advertisements to campaign and create awareness of our music video. We will create:
Posters,Calendar's, Tickets, Magazine Adverts, Billboards, A Website,      T-shirts and Album and CD covers.

We have designated different jobs to each member of the group; this is to make the production of the video and ancillary tasks much faster and evens out the work-load.

We have planned to have finished filming by the end of December, finished editing at the end of January, have all of our ancillary tasks completed by the end of January and complete any final editing that has to be done by the beginning of February.

To create a wide variety of strong camera shots and angles we will need to use different types of professional standard equipment. The types of equipment we will use include the tracking device, tripod, jib, video cameras and the green screen.

Our pitch was approved and we will now begin to develop our idea

Our Story board

I was put in charge of creating the story board using a collection of the groups ideas, I used a wide selection of camera shots and angles, making out music video interesting and modern.

Final Video Idea

After our initial brainstorming we had a group meeting and came up with a basic outline for the video.

The main themes in our music video are the notion of love the passing of time and the motion of movement. There are two main characters in our music video one in a teenage girl, the second character is a teenage boy who is in the army.

The music video starts with the teenage girl walking into a music shop sitting at a piano where she plays the opening tune. The story is then moved along through shots of the girl in different locations which will also include different types of transport ensure a suitable pace and sense of verisimilitude throughout the video.

The lyrics show that the girl is missing the boy and is remembering and reflecting the times that they had together. The millitary theme will be shown through flash backs. The video follows the love story of the two people continuing even when he is not there.

Mood Boards

Following are images of our mood boards, created by each memeber of the group to be shown alongside our pitch...

We created these mood boards based on some of our initial ideas, which we can further develop to create our story board.

Our song choice

When brainstorming for our artist and song choice we decided that a song with a story would be more appropriate as the video could follow the song smoothly, we looked at many popular artists currently in the charts and decided on a target audience that focused on teenage women. We looked at popular artists such as, Pixie lott, Taylor swift, pink and vanessa Carlton. We analysed each of our song choices and finally chose 'Vanessa Carlton A thousand Miles'. I feel this was a wise choice, as the song will appeal to our target audience and follows a storyline.
